As the main armament of the Hornet attack mecha, the Stinger is the largest cluster missile produced to date by Earth. Mounted under the nose of the Hornet, the Stinger was launched in the direction of a large concentration of enemy mecha, where it discharged its cluster bomblets. These bomblets were larger than the standard bomblets, and could locate and strike targets up to 1.5 km from the dispersal point.
The Hornet and the Stinger missile were of little use against the Robotech Masters, and were taken out of service during the Second Robotech war. This may, in hindsight, have been unfortunate, as the Stinger would have been a large success in the battles with the Invid.
