The Alias (Air Launched Independently targeted Anti Satellite) is the standard air-to-space weapon of the REF. Hardly ever carried let alone used, the Alias is launched from under the wings of a Beta fighter, and uses its scramjet and rocket engines to guide itself into the target, which is damaged or destroyed by the kinetic impact of the missile.
The Alias is a tubular missile with a thick front section containing the guidance and sensor package, and a thinner engine section, itself made up from two sections, one for the scramjet and one for the rocket engine.
Standard method of launch is to make a zoom climb with the Beta, and to release the Alias at 40km altitude. However, due to the customary REF space superiority, and the preference by the Navy for the RMS-2 missile, the Alias is hardly ever used in combat.
